Get More Website Visitors

Website That Fits My Business

“How do I get more website visitors?” Have you said this before? A few times? Ah, maybe more than a few times?

The best answer to this question is: just talk about your business.

OK, is that just a little too simplistic?

Maybe, but you wouldn’t believe how many people create websites that talk about so many different things that Google has a hard time trying to figure out what their website is about. Here’s a very simple story:

Let’s say that you sell apples.

So you create a website that talks about your business and you have a webpage that talks about how great your apples are.

Now the Google spider comes along and looks at this page and says, “OK, this webpage is about apples.”

Your webpage goes into the Google index and it is related to the word “apples.”

So, if someone is searching for “apples” then your webpage fits your business. And your webpage will most likely show up in the search results where someone can click the link to your webpage. This will get you more website visitors.

But, one day you decide to sell peaches.

You think it would be nice to have a webpage that talks about your peaches. You can create a webpage for just that purpose and the same story will happen again; the story about apples is repeated, except now the story is about peaches. This, too, will get you more website visitors.

But, you don’t want to spend the extra money to create a separate page for your peaches. Or, you want people who read about your apples to see that you also sell peaches.

So, what do you do?

You make a very common error on your website.

You put the information about peaches on the same page as your apple information.

And, once again, the Google spider comes along and looks at your webpage.

But now, the Google spider sees that your webpage is about Apples and Peaches. It makes a note of that and puts the webpage in the Google index.

But, if they are searching for only “apples” or only “peaches” your webpage might still show up but in a lower position.

Why is that?

It’s because your webpage is talking about two different topics: apples AND peaches. The authority that the page had when only speaking about apples is now shared with peaches.

The more topics that you add to the page (strawberries, peas, potatoes), the more difficult it becomes for Google to figure out what your webpage is about. And this is not going to get you more website visitors.

Here’s how to make your website fit your business and get more website visitors: make two pages – one for each of your products.

Look at your product list and think about which product you want to promote on your website. Then, you can make a webpage for that product and only that product.

On the other hand, if your business is very successful, look at a product that is not selling so well. Perhaps you want to make a webpage for that product and promote it on your website.

Then, repeat the process for all the services and products that you offer. This will definitely get you more website visitors.

The process that we have been talking about is an aspect of Content Marketing, a powerful way to promote your company online. You can learn more about your website by performing a Website Audit.
